When David Long started with AHEDD, his goal was to find meaningful employment that aligned with his strengths, interests, and desire for independence. He is dependable, respectful, and consistently willing to help others. His positive attitude and ability to build connections with both coworkers and management quickly set him apart.
Like many successful journeys, David’s path included challenges. His first position, at a gas station, ultimately proved to be a poor fit. After a few shifts, it became clear that the role did not align with his skills or preferences. Rather than allowing this setback to derail his progress, David demonstrated resilience and determination. He chose to continue working toward his goal, remaining open to new opportunities better suited to his strengths.
Through continued collaboration and persistence, David secured a position as a Sales Associate at Kohl’s. In this supportive environment, David truly thrived. He developed strong relationships with coworkers, gained confidence in his customer interactions, and took pride in his responsibilities. His favorite part of the job is working the register, where he enjoys interacting with customers daily. On the sales floor, he assists with organizing merchandise and returning items, demonstrating flexibility and a strong work ethic. Over time, David became more outgoing and increasingly confident, with his growth clearly evident to those around him.
David’s success has extended well beyond the workplace. Employment has allowed him to achieve a significant personal milestone, purchasing a new car. This accomplishment has enhanced his independence and overall well-being, reinforcing the meaningful impact of sustainable employment.
David’s Employment Specialist, Jadon Haynes, reflected on this achievement, stating:
“David’s greatest accomplishment is the peace of mind he now has knowing he is working a steady and consistent job, one that is both fulfilling and brings him joy. I feel a great sense of happiness knowing David is doing something he enjoys and that we were able to improve this part of his life together.”
Due to David’s continued improvement and growing confidence, Jadon has begun the fade-out process, as David no longer requires consistent on-site support. He now confidently performs his job independently.
David’s perseverance, growth, and positive outlook serve as a powerful reminder of what can be achieved with the right support and determination. We are confident that he will continue to grow and thrive in his role at Kohl’s and beyond!
